Ruaille Buaille New Music Commission 2025

Sonic Tapestry: Sounds of Lucan House

A unique Music and Sound journey that invites listeners to explore the natural beauty of Lucan House through sound and music. A new Commission by Abigail Smith.

Working with a number of local schools in Lucan Abigail will incorporate sounds created by the children into this new Music Commission.

Composer and musician Abigail Smith will work with the class to create sounds from found objects, voice and field recordings. Excerpts of the workshop recordings will be included in a new music Commission for the Ruaille Buaille 2025 Lucan Children’s Music Festival.

Abigail will record the sounds and demonstrate how sound can be manipulated using effects and used as starting points for composing new music.
In the workshops Abigail will explore:

  • How to tell a story through music and sound.
  • How sound and music enhances a story.
  • What sounds and music can help to tell that story?
  • How to create an original rich sound world using objects in our environment to ignite the imagination of the listener
  • What is the role of silence in music and our sound world?

Some of the sounds created in the class workshops will be mixed and incorporated into Abigail’s finished work.

Sonic Tapestry: Sounds of Lucan House will be part of the Ruaille Buaille Children’s Music Festival in Lucan House on June 7th 2025.
